Week 7 Game Review

FINAL SCORE: BEAVERS 27 VS COUGARS 26

BEAVERS (5-2) COUGARS (2-5)

Beavers top Cougars in Saturday morning shootout, 27-26

Powerful Play Propels Pearce Performance, Proves Difficult to Continue Alliteration.

Following a 2-week winning streak, the Cougars once again fell to the Beavers last Saturday at Gubei field. Both the Beavs and Cougs were without critical players at midfield, however, the halftime return of Beavers midfielder Alex Spang and an outstanding game by attackman Sean Pearce (10 goals, 3 assists) provided the edge needed to outscore the potent Cougar offense.

The first half belonged to the Cougars who maintained a 3-goal cushion off the backs of Trey Steidle (8G) and Doug Delange (3G,1A), both of whom rotated between attack and midfielder duties. Cougars goaltending duo of Don Dong and Amir Alamdari has continued to be a strength and Beavers goalie Victor Ho ended up being a foil to the Cougar offense. Despite the overall performance on defense, multiple unforced turnovers in transition would be the Cougars’ undoing.

With the return of midfielder Alex Spang in the second half and the steady output by attackman Sean Pearce, the Beavers quickly erased the Cougars lead with each team answering goal for goal until the final minute of the game.

The Beavers’ victory puts the Cougars in a very difficult situation—if the Cougars have any hope of winning the season, they’ll need to win out the remainder of the season. Doable but difficult.
